The secret to success…

OK, just one more post on this side. There’s a guy that makes “millions” and is willing to part with his wisdom, for free. He might want to reconsider, ’cause he apparently can’t afford spell check, even though he’s buying ad space. His earnings “disclaimer” is here. And, quoted below:

Moving the sparkling commentary

This site will stay up, but I’m moving over to net.tangible-benefit.org. I have a feeling that voices of reason will be needed on other topics, blogging is OK, but limiting, and forums (while lively) tend to attract trolls. It’s a lot easier to sift through all the stuff in a Pligg format, plus it allows more people to pitch in. If you find something of interest, feel free to join in.

Even when their own CEO…

…says to stop (nudge, nudge, wink, wink), they keep plugging away with the “major companies” bit. This time, they are careful not to mention names. I bet if you’re nice, they will whisper it in your ear. Since the people doing this aren’t technically employees, there really isn’t anything to be done about it. Yet the whole thing depends on “non employees” creating the illusion that there is “buy-in” from companies. If he had control of it and could stop it, the whole thing would fall apart.  This is a quote off of their support forums, my emphasis added:

You absolutely make sense. This is free to join, so you are not out anything by signing up. I think in time this will pay off very well. I have gotten commissions already so I know that part works. Follow up with your invites, walk them through if you have to. The only thing you really have to lose is some time. Be honest with people. Tell them there are glitches but the concept is sound, and the 400 major companies participating are our credibility factor. This is the leading edge of a revolution in marketing that you just don’t want to miss. especially since its free. Imagine if someone didn’t sign up because of these startup problems, and a year from now was NOT making tens of thousands of dollars they could have if they had simply signed up. I too am frustrated with the glitches, but I’m hanging on for the long term. You could be one of my own co workers I signed up, so I’d want them to know the same thing….this is more than a great concept. This is a gold rush waiting to happen. All businesses entail some risk. We are risking some time for potential great rewards. Maintain personal relationships with your prospects, be open and honest with them, this is only three weeks old…..and while I totally agree PPL and B/O are wrong to stay silent, that is a P/R problem and doesn’t mean they aren’t working on it. PPL and B/O… you have a P/R disaster here…tell us the truth so we can counsel our own signups.

What does signing up for this mess do, how can that hurt anyone? It makes it appear reasonable. The potential for great rewards depends on “Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds“.  Fear, uncertainty, and doubt. The marketing is dependent on making you think you’re going to miss the next “Big Thing.” When someone peddles FUD, it is usually best to walk the other way.

As for “I have already gotten commissions,” commissions on what? Over priced printer cartridges that you purchased for yourself ? How in the world does that do anyone any good? I’ll wager the commissions are less than the price difference if you had actually spent 25 seconds googling around for the best deal.

Wheels of the bus go round and round…

… and then, apparently, start falling off. Reports are being posted that Walmart has dropped Blast Off  as an affiliate. Could it be the negative press? Doubtful. It’s that they can do math, manage their business, and don’t appreciate their customers being duped.

“Some associates mis-represented the affiliation with Walmart,” a paraphrase from Wild Bill Rodgers. I have a hard time finding ones who are posting that aren’t mis-representing the affiliation with Walmart, Travelocity, Target, The Gap. The list goes on and on.

Bravo Walmart! Now maybe Pizza Hut can find a Web Guru who knows how to Google. (oh, and can do basic math).

P.S. Enjoy the vid and you might want to check out this page. It will probably become extremely relevant in short order:

Dough and more dough

Pepperoni apparently isn’t a substitute for brains. Bernard Acoca, with a title of something like Grand Poobah of digital marketing at Pizza Hut, is the latest in a long line of ignorant people to sign on. He is sooo internet savvy that, as of now, he has a whole nine followers on Twitter, count ‘em: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9! If that’s not expertise, I don’t what is! It looks like he might have been better off if he had watched the Public Service Announcement from www.expad.ie before attaching his name to this. If this is a desperate attempt to save a job from the shitter, I can already hear the water swirling.

Flushing sounds aside, subjecting your customers to a MLM cult is not a way to endear yourself. A suggestion, it will be better to stop the bleeding now and pull the plug before your company’s name gets associated with the royal rogering that will plainly follow. Market basics don’t change Mr. Acoca, if the sock puppet pedaling high risk car loans doesn’t convince you, then I’m afraid your ignorance is willful and can’t be helped.

Before heading out for the weekend

Here’s a guy claiming direct affiliation with major retailers. It’s part of the internet-herpes these people have infected the search engines with, searching on “Blast Off Scam”. This is not uncommon behavior from these guys. Why is he lying? Major retailers are not signing up with these jackasses. The fact that this guy is lying, and doing it so enthusiastically, should be a major red flag.

The Blast-Off guys remind me of this dude:

Blastoff Off Network Scam

BBSI Computer Info

I’ve had to shoot down sooo many slick, crappy scams in my day job, I always feel like Darth Vader walking into the room. I’m glad to see there are others with the same mindset, who ask questions, examine motive and logic, and don’t fall for the first thing that sounds good.

If you want to share revenue with your friends, do it on the up and up, set up a site and an Affiliate Program through one of the established companies (Blastoff runs through Linkshares, that’s right, it’s not their “shopping mall”), and everyone agree to do their online shopping there. I have a feeling you’ll see a better discount for yourself that way, and your money much sooner.

Pyramid definition

This guy says it much better than I can:

http://www.amquix.info/quixtar_pyramid_rebuttal.html it appears he is selling something there, but good info nonetheless.

and a brief summary, look at item number four. Fail.

From the evolution of the pyramiding regulations one can broadly define the characteristics of a legal pyramid or chain marketing scheme.  To be legal a plan must meet ALL of these requirements.

  1. No required fixed fee to join

  2. No minimum required purchases to made

  3. A refund provision ensuring at least a 90% refund on what is purchased

  4. At least 50% of the benefits are derived from those not participating in the plan

Comments

Hi Barbara,

Thank you for your comment. It highlights everything I’ve said so far. You registered a website to try to jam up the search engines and have a link back from the comments here (so I won’t publish it). The site is obviously another delusional front for Blastoff. Sorry. Looking at the site, it’s the same old same ol’. That 20 levels of payout that “could be a big deal” is pretty much an impossibility. It would take everyone on the planet, and everyone that will be born in the next 50 years, signing up to make any kind of mathematical sense. It’s over on the Basic Math page. The numbers don’t hold water.  It’s reposted here, just for you.

math-for-tards1

I by no means agree with the estimate of market size. I think it will be much lower than a quarter of Facebook. So, let Blastoff lead you around by the nose, or use your brain.
